Heritage Advisor

Support the business with clear and accurate technical advice on built heritage, archaeology and/or Aboriginal cultural heritage.

- We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic heritage professionals to join our growing team. We have two exciting Heritage Advisor positions in our  Heritage Team and are looking for experienced heritage professionals to help manage Sydney Water’s legislative obligations for Aboriginal cultural heritage, built heritage, archaeology and moveable heritage.

About the role:
As a Sydney Water Heritage Advisor, you will be expected to support the business with clear and accurate technical advice on built heritage, archaeology and/or Aboriginal cultural heritage. You will support the Heritage Team in preparing a range of heritage assessments and approvals to facilitate project and operational outcomes for the business. You will work with and support multiple areas of the business to ensure that Sydney Water meets its asset creation and maintenance requirements, including environmental assessment teams, system planners, project managers and delivery contractors.

In this role you will be expected to work with a high level of autonomy as part of a team of dedicated heritage professionals who manage and conserve Sydney Water’s significant portfolio of operating heritage assets and ensure that active heritage assets remain in use.

What you’ll do:
This role is suitable for heritage professionals who thrive on a fast-paced high-volume workload environment and who have a passion for delivering excellence. In this role your primary duties will include:

Preparing heritage impact assessments and approvals under the Heritage Act 1977.
Preparing Aboriginal Heritage Due Diligence assessments and applications for Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permits (AHIPs) under the National Parks & Wildlife Act 1974.
Preparing, reviewing and advising on strategic heritage documentation including heritage registers, conservation management plans, interpretation plans, archival recordings.
Providing specialist advice to Sydney Water staff and contractors on cultural heritage compliance and management, supported by Senior and Principal Heritage Advisors.
Supporting other heritage business initiatives including training, process and policy development, heritage tours and storytelling opportunities.
