Strengthening Indigenous Economic Participation

Buying on Country is a signature NSWICC initiative designed to build a culturally and economically connected ecosystem. We achieve this through a united approach to procurement, strategic partnerships and targeted capability uplift programs for both buyers and suppliers.

At its core, Buying on Country aims to create lasting, sustainable impact by increasing opportunities for Indigenous people, businesses and communities across New South Wales to participate in and benefit from government and private sector supply chains. When Indigenous businesses succeed, our communities thrive. We offer a comprehensive range of programs under the Buying on Country banner. Explore our initiatives below.

Equitable Procurement Practices

This program is designed to enhance understanding and maximise the effective application of the NSW Government’s Aboriginal Procurement Policy (APP). We support government to develop and embed procurement practices that are inclusive, equitable and culturally safe for Aboriginal businesses.

Supplying Local Government

A dedicated program working directly with local councils to build their organisational capability to attract and engage certified Indigenous suppliers. Concurrently, we equip Aboriginal businesses with the practical tools, knowledge, and connections required to successfully engage with local government procurement opportunities across NSW.

Fostering the growth and visibility of Aboriginal-owned businesses by enhancing connections and building capacity. This initiative features three dedicated online portals providing culturally safe spaces for peer-to-peer mentoring, direct collaboration and access to practical resources for Indigenous Entrepreneurs, ACCOs and Indigenous Women in Business.
