NSW Aboriginal Procurement Policy

NSWICC advocates for policies that enhance Indigenous participation in procurement processes. We work closely with government bodies to ensure that procurement policies are inclusive and supportive of Indigenous businesses.

The NSW Aboriginal Procurement Policy is one of the most important levers for Indigenous economic participation in our state - and NSWICC plays a critical role in supporting its effective implementation.

As a signatory to the Industry Based Agreement (IBA) with the NSW Government, NSWICC partners with agencies, government contractors and peak industry groups to:

  • Facilitate Indigenous business engagement
  • Promote inclusive procurement practices
  • Improve policy transparency and delivery
  • Strengthen pathways for certified Indigenous suppliers into supply chains

Through the APP, the NSW Government seeks to increase direct spend with certified Indigenous businesses and create meaningful employment, training and enterprise opportunities.

NSWICC contributes to this policy landscape as a:

  • Lead advisor on the needs and capabilities of Indigenous businesses in NSW
  • Policy influencer advocating for regulation and accountability
  • Connector between Indigenous suppliers and government buyers
  • Support partner helping Indigenous businesses become tender-ready

The NSW Aboriginal Procurement Policy is currently under review. The NSWICC provided a submission to Treasury NSW for this review in February 2023. This submission was informed by information, concerns and experiences provided by our Members. The Submission can be seen here.

We continue to call for stronger implementation and reporting mechanisms, greater buyer education, and consistent collaboration with Indigenous peak bodies to ensure the APP delivers lasting, measurable impact for communities across NSW.
